The Ducks team has expanded...

A big welcome to Josephine and Michael!

While All the Ducks have always undertaken a range of bespoke programming tasks in addition to developing and supporting Grade Matter, the last couple of years have seen us taking on increasingly significant projects. This has been a time of growth and transition for the company. It represents our very own digital transformation as we increasingly move our core technology suite into the AWS environment. There are many advantages both for our clients and us in doing this, not least of which is being able to stay abreast of emerging technologies and the ability to exploit exciting new functionality, security and scalability.

As we worked against tight timelines late last year and early in 2023 to deliver the minimum viable product (MVP) of our biggest project to date, it was clear that we needed additional coding expertise in the team. To address this need, we engaged three external developers. All three had substantive jobs elsewhere and worked on our tasks after hours. By and large this was effective and greatly assisted us to deliver the MVP in a timely fashion and to a high standard. It has been in mainstream operation since the start of Semester 1, 2023 and is a very successful implementation.

When contemplating the next phase of the project, and whilst scoping additional projects for other clients, it was evident that we needed to expand our coding capability beyond the two principals and our after-hours developers.

To this end, and after an internally managed recruitment process, we now have two new team members who bring strong skills, great enthusiasm and fresh perspectives to our team.

Josephine Yoshawirja - Software Developer

Josephine brings many years of software development experience to the Ducks. She is currently on a steep learning curve building her knowledge of the AWS environment and is undertaking coding tasks under Shane's supervision. In addition, she has a breadth of experience in business analysis, project design and business operations. As an example, Josephine has greatly improved our use of Atlassian Jira and her breadth of experience in industry is already providing us with valuable insights.

Michael Tharratt - Software Developer

Michael has been coding since he was a child and in addition to maintaining that interest, has done some other very interesting things since then! A music degree and working in the building industry are just a couple of them and his recent immersion in full stack software development have all led him to this role with All the Ducks. As Michael's CV says "I have a passion for leveraging my skills in programming to solve real-world problems" and the way he has embraced the work he's been given certainly confirms this.

We are delighted to have welcomed these two terrific people to the Ducks team and are very excited about what the future holds.

PS: In the first version of this post, we neglected to mention that Josephine and Michael rose to the top from over 140 applicants. That speaks for itself!
